วันนี้ วันที่ 14 กุมภาพันธ์ นับเป็นวันสำคัญวันหนึ่งของปีนี้ ตามที่หลายๆ คนเรียกว่าเป็น วันตรุษจีนแห่งความรัก ซึ่งตั้งแต่ปี 1900 นี่เป็นเพียงครั้งที่ 3 ที่วันปีใหม่จีน มาบรรจบตรงกับวันแห่งความรัก

This year is only the third time since 1900 that Chinese New Year has fallen on the same day as Valentine’s Day!

ถึงแม้ว่าจะเป็นความบังเอิญที่น่าสนใจ และใครๆ หลายคนก็ตื่นเต้น แต่ในความเป็นจริงแล้ว โดยเฉพาะในประแทศที่มีชาวจีนอาศัยอยู่เยอะความบังเอิญแบบนี้ ก็ใช่ว่าจะดีนะคะ เพราะมันนำมาซึ่งความขัดแย้ง ดังเช่นตัวอย่างสามเรื่อง ดังนี้

1.  While Valentine’s Day is popular for weddings, Chinese New Year is not an auspicious moment to do so.

2. Businesses are also aligning themselves for possible implications of the clash. Florists for example, enjoy bumper sales during Valentine’s Day. Yet this year, Valentine’s Day falls on a non-working holiday. Typically, boyfriends send bouquets of roses to girlfriends working in offices. The clash with Lunar New Year puts a halt to all activities in Hong Kong, so such sales strategy will not be applicable.

3. With the two festival coming together, restaurants will have to choose one to focus on, and that means they have to lose one of the best business days for the year 2010.
